Welcome to the Centre for Neuropsychiatric Sciences (CNS)

The Centre for Neuropsychiatric Sciences (CNS) is a newly established corporation in the St. John’s metropolitan area, with a mandate to become an institution of excellence in Neuropsychiatry, both in clinical practice and cutting-edge research, for the province of Newfoundland and Labrador and throughout Atlantic Canada. The founder and medical director at CNS as well as the province’s only Neuropsychiatrist, Dr. Hugh A. Mirolo, is engaged in research related to his medical practice. He trained at Yale University and Dartmouth Medical School and has more than 20 years of clinical and research experience in Neuropsychiatry.

At CNS, we have a dedicated research team whose purpose is to investigate Neuropsychiatry as a specialty of medicine, as well as the conditions this specialty encompasses. We currently have a number of projects investigating various conditions underway including critical analyses of patient case reports and systematic reviews. These conditions include autism, huntington’s, dementia, and seizures.

Our Objectives:

  • To develop cost-effective services that meet the needs of the province and country.
  • To coordinate these services to ensure efficient, effective use of resources.
  • To create links with other facilities and community agencies.
  • To provide a comprehensive continuum of care for clients.
  • To conduct high quality neuropsychiatric research to support the clinical needs of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, and beyond.
